Good News Church is a Christ-centered, Spirit-empowered, and globally minded family committed to seeing lives transformed through Jesus.
We are a diverse community where people from all backgrounds can encounter God, build authentic relationships, and grow as disciples.
Our passion is to equip and empower every believer to live out the Good News—connecting faith to everyday life and fulfilling God’s purpose for everyone, everywhere, every day.
At Good News Church, our mission is guided by three core values, Connect, Disciple, and Empower. These values shape everything we do as we seek to bring God’s kingdom on earth as it is in heaven.
We intentionally do everything within our power to connect people to God and to our Good News family, creating a welcoming and transformative community.
We are disciples of Jesus who make disciples. Following His example, we engage others in a relational journey so they may experience wholeness in Christ.
We develop and invest in people, creating opportunities that unlock potential and make God-given purpose accessible to all.
Our core beliefs shape our identity, guide our teaching, and unify us as a church. We invite you to explore our beliefs and see how they shape our faith and mission.
We believe in one eternal God who exists in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Each is fully God, equal in nature and power, yet distinct in role—working together in perfect unity to accomplish His will and reveal His love.
Matthew 28:19
2 Corinthians 13:14
John 14:16–17
We believe that humanity was created good and in the image of God, but through willful disobedience, fell into sin. As a result, all people are separated from God and in need of salvation through Jesus Christ.
Genesis 3:1–7
Romans 3:23
Romans 5:12
We believe that salvation is found in Jesus Christ alone. Through His death and resurrection, we are forgiven, made new, and restored to right relationship with God—by grace, through faith, not by our own efforts.
John 14:6
Acts 4:12
Ephesians 2:8–9
Romans 10:9–10
We believe in the baptism in the Holy Spirit as a distinct experience following salvation. This empowerment fills believers with boldness, deepens their spiritual walk, and equips them for effective witness and service.
Acts 1:8
Acts 2:4
Luke 24:49
Acts 10:44–46
We believe the Holy Spirit empowers believers with spiritual gifts for the building up of the Church and the advancement of God’s mission. These gifts are active and available today, given according to God’s will to equip every believer for ministry and to reveal His power and presence.
1 Corinthians 12:4–11
Romans 12:6–8
Ephesians 4:11–13
We believe the Church exists to glorify God by making disciples of Jesus Christ. Empowered by the Holy Spirit, we are called to share the gospel, serve others, grow in community, and reveal God’s love and compassion to the world—carrying the hope of Jesus to our neighborhoods and the nations.
Matthew 28:19–20
Acts 1:8
Ephesians 4:11–13
We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God—true, trustworthy, and authoritative for every area of life. It reveals God’s character, His plan of salvation, and provides the foundation for faith, teaching, and daily living.
2 Timothy 3:16–17
2 Peter 1:20–21
Psalm 119:105
Jason Carter grew up in the South and, after coming to Christ, attended Southeastern Bible College in Lakeland, Florida. There, he met Carissa Garcia, a former missionary and pastor’s daughter, and they later married. Together, they served as young adult pastors in Pensacola, Florida, and were involved in teaching and worship ministry at Carissa’s home church in Brooksville, led by her father.
At Good News Church, Jason has served in various pastoral roles, including Young Adult Ministry, Ministry Teams, Youth Pastor, and Leadership Development. Carissa has been a key part of the worship ministry, beginning in young adult ministry and continuing in her role as Worship Leader.
For more than 75 years, Good News Church—formerly known as Glad Tidings Church—has been a beacon of hope in Omaha. Nestled atop the hill at 75th and Hickory, our church is centrally located in the Aksarben area, drawing people from every part of the city. But it’s not just our location that makes us special—it’s the life-changing power of God’s good news, bringing together people from all backgrounds to experience His love and transformation.
Our journey began in 1936 with a simple tent revival at 31st & Leavenworth. A year later, under Pastor L.E. King, we officially became an Assemblies of God church, purchasing our first building at 18th & Cass Street. As our community grew, so did our need for space, leading us to our current home at 75th & Hickory in 1969 under Pastor John G. Walker.
In 1975, disaster struck—one of Nebraska’s most devastating tornadoes tore through our church, causing severe damage. But God’s faithfulness never wavered. That same year, we rebuilt, expanding our auditorium, adding nurseries, toddler facilities, and other essential spaces.
Over the decades, faithful leaders like Val Munson, Rick Cole, Al Toledo, Dobie Weasel, and Walt DeVries have shaped Good News Church, each leaving a unique imprint on our mission and ministry. In March 2019, Pastor Jason Carter stepped into leadership, continuing the legacy of proclaiming God’s good news and leading our church into the future.
From a tent revival to a thriving community, our story is one of faith, resilience, and God’s unwavering goodness—and we believe the best is yet to come!
